The Nectarian Vision
Clearly, all of nature’s wonders: the powerful elements and the beautiful diversity of life – offer an ever-flowing source of inspiration and healing to us humans. The hummingbird is the prime example of a nectarian~ in order for this exquisite creature to maintain the energy needed to flap its wings and keep its tiny yet powerful heart beating, the hummingbird must constantly be drinking the nectar from flowers. For many cultures the hummingbird is a blessing, a messenger of joy. The hummingbird may teach us to delight in creation, to appreciate the magic of being alive, and the truth of beauty. All these sources of inspiration and joy in this life- they are the nectar that fuels our creative expressions. Those that drink in this nectar to truly receive the blessings are “nectarians.” We are Nectarians by nature, seeking the sweetness of life! Any art/music that attempts to reflect and transmit the natural beauty, ecological balance and reverence for this precious Earth may be considered “nectarian.”
There is also the story of the hummingbird as told by the first African woman Noble Peace Laureate Wangari Maathai. In the story, a fire breaks out in the forest and it keeps getting bigger and bigger and all the animals begin to flee and watch from the distance in awe, feeling helpless, while the hummingbird is taking water drop by drop in its beak to try to put out the fire, telling the other animals “I am doing the best I can.” Imagine if all beings would do the same~ To work to better this world rather than watch the ruin of it. Moral of the story: No matter who you are or where you are: do what you can, no matter how small, because collectively it will make a difference.
It is my vision that the people of this planet use their power to heal the broken parts of the web, to Give back for all that we take. There is much to be learned from the other beings of this planet- The plant kingdom, the animals, the microorganisms within us and under our feet, the decomposers that work to recycle the elements. All beings play their integral part and serve their purpose. Let us serve ours with pride and the highest integrity. With great power, comes great responsibility. We must be the guardians- to ensure the sacred balance, to ensure a world that our children flourish in, with clean water and air, and food that grows healthy from the earth. This means doing all that we can to live in a sustainable, simple and humble way, harmonious with the cycles of Nature.
